  • Launching the TFA Prototype (basics)

  • Switchboard

    This is the main window that opens when the Prototype is launched. Virtually any aspect of the prototype can be accessed through this screen.

  • Main Operating Window

    Many operations can be done on the Main Operating window. This will give a brief overview, but for more information, see the Main Operating Window page.

    To find an applicant by last name, enter in the applicants last name in the field "Last Name" and press enter. If there are any applicants that match the last name typed, they will be displayed in the window below. If there are more applicants than can be seen, scroll down using the scroll bar on the right hand side fo the screen.

    To add a region, click any of the regions listed. This brings up the region location field. More information on adding a region can be found here.

    To add a course, click on any of the courses listed. These do not affect the placement algorithm, but are for internal use only. Once the courses taught field is displayed, click on the last line which should be blank. Type the name of the new course and press tab on your keyboard and the course will be added.

    To add a grade preference, click on any of the grades listed. These do not affect the placement algorithm, but are for internal use only. Once the grades field is displayed, click on the last line which should be blank. Type the name of the new course and press tab on your keyboard and the grade will be added.

    To view or modify the Region Preferences for an applicant, select the applicant in the bottom of the screen. The Applicant's current preferences will be shown in the middle of the screen. To change these, simply click on the preferences and the form to change the applicant's preferences will be shown.

    To view or modify the Course for an applicant, select the applicant in the bottom of the screen. The Applicant's current courses will be shown in the middle of the screen. To change these, simply click on the courses and the form to change the applicant's courses will be shown.

    To search for applicants based on location preference, courses, or grades, choose the regions wanted, the courses taught, grades, and the preferences for each. To choose multiple areas, holding ctrl while click will select multiples. Click on "Run Filter" to view all of the applicants matching these criteria.

    To view all applicants, click on "Un-Filter/Refresh"

  • Enter # of Applicants needed

    To enter in the number of applicants and the positions to fill, choose the "Applicant Placement" option from the switchboard, or choose "Selection Process" from the Main Operating Window.

    On the left hand side of the screen, there is a listing of the applicants and their placement (if placed previously) along with a box with a checkmark in it labeled "Select". To choose and applicant to be placed, click on the box to check it. To unselect the applicant, uncheck the box.

  • Run Assignment Prototype

    To run the assignment prototype, choose the applicants that are to be selected first, and also select the number of applicants per region. This is necessary in order to get the correct information.

    Once the number of applicants and locations are specified, choose "Run the Placement Algorithm"from the Switchboard, then choose "Run Algorithm". An option to output the result to file is also available (when checked). This will open up the program "Notepad" which is used to view the output. This output is the Hungarian Algorithm at work.

    To view where the applicants are placed, simply click on the "Result Report" button on the same screen, or the "View the Placement Report" from the switchboard.
