the Department of Mathematics begins.
September, 1947: The Mathematics Master's degree is first offered.
1950: The first Mathematics Master's degrees are awarded.
July 25, 1963: The University of Kansas City becomes
the University of Missouri - Kansas City (UMKC)
September, 1967: The Mathematics Ph.D. degree is first offered.
1968: The first Mathematics Ph.D. degree is awarded.
1970-1977: The department reaches its historical maximum number of fulltime faculty: 20-21.
1995: The department name is changed to the
"Department of Mathematics and Statistics".
2000: The first Interdisciplinary Ph.D. degree
with Coordinating Discipline "Mathematics" is awarded.
2002: The last Mathematics Ph.D. degree (non-Interdisciplinary) is awarded.
Spring 2003: After a large Dec. 2002 group retirement, the number of fulltime faculty is reduced to: 6, the lowest number since 1955.
