Gislaine is originally from Cameroon in Africa, and speaks two African languages in addition to English and French. She recently taught 8th grade mathematics at Nowlin Middle School, and previously was an ESL (English as a Second Language) mathematics teacher at Northeast Middle School. For two years, she was the Director of The Homework Zone for YouthNet of Kansas City. She was also an intern for three years and then for another three years was a National Trainer, Project Director, and Site Coordinator for the Freedom Schools Project in Kansas City.

While at UMKC from 1999-2001, Gislaine was a VSI College Algebra facilitator on campus.
