Lab Rules

  1. Wear safety goggles at all times.
  2. Wear shoes that will protect against spills or dropped objects.
  3. When needed, wear provided lab apron and gloves to protect you from contact with hazardous substances.
  4. Do not eat or drink while in lab.
  5. Avoid touching face (eyes and mouth, especially) while in contact with chemicals. Do not apply makeup while in lab.
  6. Do not taste, smell, or touch any substance without teacher approval.
  7. Remove bulky jewelry and tie back long hair.  Loose clothing, long necklaces, large bracelets, and long hair can contribute to fire and spills. 
  8. Conduct only those experiments which have been authorized by the teacher.
  9. Do not point heated containers, such as flasks and test tubes, at anyone, including oneself.
  10. Dispose of all waste safely and accordingly; all waste glass in a separate container and chemicals as directed.
  11. Stay out of material storage areas.
  12. Do not remove any materials from the classroom without teacher permission.
  13. Do not work alone in the laboratory.
  14. Know how to use safety equipment and assist lab partners in using them in the case of fire, accidents, or injury.
  15. Notify the teacher of any spills or breakages, as these will need to be cleaned up quickly and with precaution.
  16. Keep work area free of clutter and stay in assigned work area. 
  17. Clean up work area during and after procedures.
  18. Overall, demonstrate safe behaviors.
