Love

“Don't 'throw' the word 'love' around unless you know in your heart, soul, mind, body, and spirit that you first know what the word means, and that you truly feel it.”  This anonymous quote states the importance of knowing the definition of the word love.

Love is a human emotion that is expressed through the deep caring and understanding of a living being through special feelings, words, and actions.  It is considered the most incredible emotion known to man and is experienced by a majority of the population in a lifetime.

According to the New American Standard version of the Holy Bible (I Corinthians 13:4-8a), “Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never fails…”

Love makes one care about a person and see him or her in a different way.  When this emotion is present, actions of love can be expressed.  These can be expressed in many ways, including friendliness, faith, and respect.  Ways that are more physical include hugs and smiles.

Love has many side effects; these include friendship, happiness, compassion, and respect.  Pain, longing, and heartache are the adverse effects that may result from love that is not returned.  Fortunately, the adverse effects do not last as long as the beneficial effects.

Many great works of art and literature have come about due to the mysteries and greatness of love.  Some of the more famous literature masterpieces include Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, a story of forbidden love, and Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac, a story of hidden love.  Both pieces reflect the power and intensity of love.

Love is experienced by many people every day and is considered one of the most crucial and unexplainable emotions a person could ever have.  It is an important part of the daily functioning of life.  Without love, life as humans know it would cease to exist.
