In early October, 2003, my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She underwent radiation and chemotherapy. Her body was too weak, so the chemotherapy was stopped, and she continued with the radiation. She finished her round of radiation in December and by Christmas we got the news that her tumor was shrinking and her cancer counts were declining. Unfortunately, Mom did not feel any better and her health continued to decline. In early February we were informed that the cancer had spread to her lungs and that she would have one to three months to live. My sister moved up her wedding from May 15th to February 29th to insure my mother's presence. She made it and showed definite signs of understanding what was going on. The next morning, she turned to my dad and said "goodbye." Hospice came in and said it could be a matter of hours. We spent the next few days at her side. She died at the stroke of midnight, on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2004, the anniversary of her grandfather's death. Her visitation was held on the 5th, her funeral on the 6th, both at Charter Funerals in Merriam, KS. She was buried in Shawnee Cemetary.
