Problems involving high dimensionality and where one can explore such structures as sparsity and continuity Applied statistics (modeling, inference and algorithmic development for real-world problems), particularly in the area of statistical genetics, cancer research, medicine, and public health sciences

Dr. Yan was a Postdoctoral Researcher in Statistics working at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, WA. Before that, in 2008 he was a Research Scientist at the Intel Research Lab in Berkeley, CA.
