Tom joins our mathematics team having recently worked as the Textbook Coordinator for the Kansas City Missouri School District for 10 years. He managed the fulfillment of textbook and curriculum materials (about 100 titles with 1000 ancillary pieces, across 15 curriculum areas) for 70 schools originally (down to 32 now) with originally about 32,000 students (down to 17,000 now) with a budget of more than $3 million. During that time he collaborated regularly with teachers, principals and others to accurately maintain textbook supplies. He also gave annual presentations to the School Board with textbook and curriculum recommendations for the district.
From 1996 to 2006, Tom was a Mathematics Teacher, teaching Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry at Central Computer Science Magnet High School in the district, incorporating computer and calculator technology in his classes. During that time he also taught dual-credit Math 110 College Algebra, and Math 125 Trigonometry at Central, as an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at UMKC.
He is a member of the both the KCATM (Kansas City Area Teachers of Mathematics) and Treasurer for 10 years, and, the NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) for 15 years.
