I finished an M.A. in Mathematics at UMKC in 1967. I worked as an environmental analyst from 1977-1984 at Franklin Associates Limited in Prairie Village and then at the Midwest Research Institute. I taught in the UMKC mathematics department part time during that period. I completed a doctorate in mathematical sciences at Clemson University (algebraic combinatorics) in 1997.
Since 1995 I have been a mathematics instructor at the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities, and have been chair of the Mathematics and Computer Science Division since 2005. The Indiana Academy is a high school for gifted students in grades 11 and 12, operated by Ball State University.
It occurred to me that it would be easier to find a good picture of my cats to send, but I found one taken when my colleagues surprised me with a celebration of my 70th birthday about three months ago. I am married for the second time (1996) and have four children. My list of grandchildren is in the process of growing from six to nine as my step-daughter is in the process of adopting three.
I received the Dean Roy Weaver Indiana Academy Outstanding Contributor Award at
graduation on May 25, 2013. This award is given annually to a member of the
Academy community whose commitment to students of the Academy has had the
biggest impact on the Academy. The award is given by the IASMH Alumni
Association and the recipient is selected by a vote of the students.
