I worked at Hallmark Cards headquarters while studying at UMKC, taking
a full-time position in Hallmark's I/T department after graduation.
I earned my M.S. in aerospace engineering at University of Kansas. While
I was a graduate student, the NSF sent me to Australia to collaborate
with the University of Tasmania and the Australian Antarctic Division
developing airborne radars to survey glaciers.
After graduation from
KU in 2007, I joined NASA at the Dryden Flight Research Center in
Edwards, CA in the Controls and Dynamics Branch. My research projects
range from aviation safety (adaptive control systems that are
resilient to damage) to environmentally responsible aviation
(intelligent control systems that reduce fuel consumption). I have
supported flight research on several aerospace vehicles, including
F-15 IFCS, Orion capsule AFT, X-48, and F-18 FAST. Linear algebra,
differential equations, and technical writing are essential skills in
my work, right up there with PowerPoint.
I met my wife, Pui, at UMKC in Royall Hall. We have two children,
born in 2007 and 2011. Our family has settled in Lancaster, CA. We
have many good memories from Kansas City, especially at UMKC.
